Ayus’ Story

My parents did manual labor. My father worked in the Forest office, and made less than $2.00 a day, and we struggled. As time went on, my father contracted Tuberculosis and passed away when I was 3 years old. My mother was dumbfounded by my father’s death and became so weak day by day. To survive, my mother became a beggar, and went door to door begging for over a year, carrying me over her shoulder. The situation was getting worse, and we didn’t have enough to eat. One morning, my mother told her mother to watch me, for her to go to the market to get something.

My grandmother looked everywhere for my mother, but to no avail. One day, the warden of the children center visited my village, and met my grandmother. She shared my story with the warden, and he was moved with compassion and brought me to the children center and been living in a hope house since then. I am a second-grade student and want to continue my education. I help with minor work in the garden at the children’s center. The children’s center supports me with education, food, and clothing. I am thankful to the children’s center and Hope for Life Ministries for their love and support.

I am Tanu. My father was an alcoholic. He physically abused my mother. When I was 2 years old, my father poured kerosene into my mother’s eyes and lit a fire. My mother grabbed me and ran. But fire burned her, and she died. My left leg and other body parts were burned and have deformities with my right leg. I was in the hospital fighting for my life.

No one wanted to care for me or accept me into their home.

Hospitals placed an ad in the local newspaper seeking someone to take me. I couldn’t walk, my left leg was burned and lost from knee down. Finally, my uncle decided to take care of me. He asked the hospitals for treatment. Unfortunately, my uncle died not long after. I was left alone again.

Someone asked Goodnews Boys home whether they will take me.

You can imagine someone who is not able to walk, but crawl needs help everyday even for necessities. After much thought and discussion, they decided to take me. They loved and cared for me and provided treatment through the hospital. As time went on, I improved a little, and was provided with prosthetics. They bought me a wheelchair. I want to continue my education, and study electronics.

I have A’s in school, and without help, I will not be able to continue my education.

There are limitations to what I can do. But there are things I can do even if I am in a wheelchair. With your help, I can make a living by completing my studies and earn a living and not be a burden for anyone.
